The LoveFresh App will change your life and the lives of those around you. All you have to do is embrace the passion obviously evident in it's creators and use it.  A bold statement I know, but I rarely get excited about something this much. It's just good all the way to it's core. [Pun intended]

Disclaimer: I know @MarkSpoff (only met him twice) who made this but have no financial interest in his business. More than anything I just love it when someone I am proud to call a friend follows through with an idea they believe in and comes out with an something as amazing as this.

Put simply, this location based service enables you to find fresh locally produced food in your area. You find it, you buy it, you eat it, you get healthy (if you don't eat too much) and at the same time, you are helping a local business who is serving the local community quality local produce. And the circle of ethical consumerism continues. You get to do good, eat good, feel good and play with tech. It's a no-brainer!

It's early days in the use of this app for me though. So far though, I've logged some local food producers and a beer maker. It's so easy to use and a pleasure to help others find the good stuff I enjoy to eat and drink.

Warning: This app has side effects: By just using it to log local food & drink suppliers, I've got to connect and make friends in my local community. I have also found myself discovering so much decent local produce my eating habits are changing. I'm certainly getting fitter as I swap quantity for quality. I'm also much more mindful of the quality of food i'm eating.  It's a big WIN all the way.

If you are going to download one app this month.. Make it this one. It's a free app and you can download it here.. Lovefresh app on iTunes

The LoveFre.sh website is worth a look too.. http://LoveFre.sh ..They are @LoveFreshHQ on twitter

Oh.. and if you really want to help the community grow and local food producers get the recognition they deserve.. please make sure you rate the Lovefresh app on iTunes The more ratings it gets the more chance it will get seen.

Nonna Makes Borscht

The stew like soup, Borscht can be found all over the world. Originating in Ukraine It's regularly found it's way to my table having either being cooked by my Ukrainian Grandfather and now after he has passed away, his wife, my Italian Grandmother.

I call her Nonna.

The dish has many different variations. I enjoy all the ones she makes. If you have a chunk of black bread to hand.. even better.

Paving The Way

Did you know Polystyrene was discovered in 1839?

Food

I quite fancy egg chips and beans with a cup of tea but at what price..?

At the risk of sounding like a hippy (after all I was brought up by them) Polystyrene does not biodegrade.. I have known this a while but every day I watch my kid grow I wonder what I have done to pave his way.. What kind of world will he grow into.

Sad as it seems I do look at the packaging provided before I order food to go and this does dictate to me whether I'll eat at one place over another. Maybe my Son will get to see these foibles and understand early on that although the choice is limited, I try to make the right one and am not just plodding along automatically without a care in the world. Without a care for the world.
